    Norma Johnson is a healer, poet and performer who brings inspired awareness to insights on race and human rights. Norma’s poems are used by educators across the country to arouse consciousness about how race, privilege and class affect our daily lives. Norma’s powerful and poignant collection of “Poems for My White Friends” stirs hearts and minds and opens space for inquiry, reflection and dialogue about the inevitable role race plays in our society and in our lives every day. Clarinetist Dexter Payne has performed from Tijuana to Paris, from Montreal to Buenos Aires. Highly ranked in Downbeat Magazine Readers Poll and 2011 International Blues Challenge winner, Payne is equally at home playing Brazillian choro jazz as he is playing jazz and blues. Recognized internationally for his work on clarinet, sax and harmonica, he is overjoyed to co-create art in service of human growth and awareness.

    All ages welcome! This program features participatory stories, songs and movement activities geared towards promoting early literacy and building a foundation for a love of books. Age appropriate activities are presented in three segments from younger to older in order to meet the developmental needs of babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. Transitions are built into the program so younger children can take a break if necessary. Join us for a wonderful shared experience for the whole family! No registration required. Pick up a free ticket at the Children's Desk the morning of the program.

    A fun and interactive Story Time for children 3 - 5 years old who can sit on their own. Preschoolers enjoy stories and songs that develop early literacy skills and foster curiosity. Asking children to attend without their caregivers helps to develop a sense of independence that will be needed as they start school. No registration required. Tuesdays, 10:30-11 a.m. And repeated on Thursdays, 1:30-2 p.m. Pick up a ticket and name tag at the Children's Desk beginning a half hour before each story time.

  5. Adults- Forging the West

    The Colorado Fuel and Iron Company (CF&I) began production in 1872 and grew to become the largest steel mill in the Western United States and a firm of enormous importance to the industrialization of the American West. This film draws on the riches of the Steelworks Center of the West archives to tell the human side of a momentous American story. Question and answer session with filmmaker Jim Havey of Havey Pro Cinema will follow the screening.

  1. Library Board Meeting

    Purpose The purpose of the Library Board is to serve as an advisory body to City Council regarding the operations of the library. Mission The Library Board is a seven-member board appointed by and advisory to the Broomfield City Council. Members must be residents of the city. The board convenes to organize and elect a chairman, vice-chairman, and secretary. The board reviews the annual budget request prepared by the library director prior to submittal to the city manager and city council and provides written recommendations regarding approval. The board works in unison with the library director to aid in fulfilling the library needs for Broomfield residents.
