Lakeshore Rocks is a summer youth volunteer program that began in 2001 at the Broomfield Community Center. Broomfield Senior Services has a daily congregate lunch program that utilizes senior volunteers to help set-up, serve, and clean-up in the dining room.
In the summer, Broomfield youth between the ages of 12 and 17 are encouraged to apply for a volunteer position. Fifteen positions will be available. Interested youth will fill out and return an application and will need to schedule an interview. The fifteen chosen volunteers will need to attend a volunteer orientation and learn how to assist the seniors during their daily luncheon. They are given a custom t-shirt and sign off on policies and procedures.
Lakeshore Rocks youth volunteers are under the direct supervision of the food services staff and work alongside the regular dining room volunteers. They will work one day a week from approximately 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This intergenerational activity encourages young people to contribute and give back to their community by helping and assisting seniors in their daily social activity and meal.
Applications will be available beginning Monday, April 24 and program will run from June 5 through August 4.
